Saturday 14 April 2012

This entry was posted at 11.40pm.  Exactly 100 years ago - to the very minute - the R.M.S. Titanic struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic and was instantly doomed.  She disappeared beneath the waves at 2.20am on Monday 15 April 1912.

A scan of a 1912 memorial postcard, one of which I own as
part of my collection, begun when the wreck was discovered in 1985.

Remember the R.M.S. Titanic - and the souls lost with her.  May they rest in peace.

Each man stood at his post
While all the weaker ones
Went by, and showed once
More to all the world
How Englishmen should die.

Inscription on the gravestone of crew member
Everett Edward Elliott
in the Titanic Cemetary, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
He was 24 when he died.
